Infertility Clients
Many couples and individuals deal with infertility challenges, yet the topic remains somewhat taboo. Oftentimes, people are reluctant to talk about their experiences because they are afraid they will be judged, shamed, or misunderstood. I have firsthand knowledge of how lonely navigating the infertility world is—that is why I offer a judgment-free space to unpack and explore my clients’ experiences with infertility.
I was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) as a teenager, and I was told that there was a good chance I would experience infertility issues because of it. When I became pregnant with my first child without assistance, and I carried her to term, I was extra-elated! I had not needed an intervention! My PCOS doctor, trying to manage my expectations, warned me several times that the ease of my first pregnancy was a fluke, and future pregnancies would likely not come with the same ease. Although I heard what she said loud and clear, I was so excited that I did not focus on her cautionary words.
Despite everything I knew, when my husband and I decided to try for a second child, I was not prepared emotionally or physically for the infertility heartache that followed. While the struggle was expected, it still took a huge toll on me. The first miscarriage was a bitter pill to swallow. The next one felt like a gut punch. The next few left me feeling completely hopeless.
I can still remember feeling sad and alone during Mommy and Me class with my toddler. I was the only mother not pregnant with her second child. Attending that class went from being something fun to do with my little one, to becoming what felt like a waking nightmare. Feeling hopeless and defeated, I decided to start infertility treatments.
Curious and determined, I learned the ins and outs of infertility and the available treatments. After several failed IUI’s, I knew IVF was on the horizon. Unfortunately, I lived through the full menu of IVF outcomes: hyperstimulation; the cycle my doctor swore would be twins that didn’t take; the frozen cycles; and the IVF miscarriages. It was grueling. Once you get on the “infertility train” it is incredibly hard to step off.
There are so many pieces to the infertility puzzle. Emotionally, it is unlike any other experience—often causing a mix of fear, stress, mood swings, and envy. Physically it is a punishingly uncomfortable process. Your body is put through so much stress and pain due to the various medications, endless shots, and never-ending doctor’s visits filled with poking, and prodding. At times it can feel dehumanizing.
My own experiences with infertility, along with my coaching skills, puts me in a unique position to support people considering treatment and those who are being actively treated. We can work together to sort through your thoughts and feelings as you create a plan that feels right for your unique circumstances. It would be my honor to help you navigate this arduous journey.
