Weight Loss Drugs

Few topics are currently as polarizing as weight loss drugs. Everyone seems to have an opinion. There is one camp that views using them as life changing, freeing and a miracle. Then there are those who view them as a cop out, a short cut or “cheating”.

A segment of my practice, from which I derive great satisfaction, involves working with clients who are using injectable or oral weight loss medications. I am thrilled to be working in conjunction with Dr. Caroline Messer, the founder of Well by Messer (wellbymesser.com). Dr. Messer is a highly respected and sought after endocrinologist in Manhattan. Dr. Messer has many patients taking Ozempic, Mounjaro, and other weight loss drugs. Working with Dr. Messer has given me the opportunity to connect with many clients who are managing their lives while using these medications.

Coaching sessions with these clients often focus on the physical and emotional aspects of taking these medications, the unsolicited opinions and speculation of other people as well as long-standing body image issues. We dive into how wonderful it feels to finally quiet the constant “food noise” in their heads as well as how challenging it is when those closest to them are critical of their decision. Losing significant weight while taking medication does not come without consequences and clients are often concerned about how they will move forward if they choose to wean off these drugs. There are many pieces to this unique puzzle and coaching can be incredibly helpful in navigating them.
